Amani was founded by a group of restless African youth as a non-profit company in 2020 as our Covid project. Our mission was to connect with South Africans and have a conversation about what it means to be a free and dignified South African and through our Accelerator develop community owned enterprises that tackle South Africa’s biggest social issues. We went through a rapid learning curve and quickly realized that if we were serious about building local power, we needed an approach that was different; the traditional non-profit operating model was simply not allowing us to have the desired impact.
